Workshop: The Sexy Side of Writing
Now that it’s been officially announced on Dean’s website, I can announce it here…
I’m co-teaching a week-long writing workshop for the Oregon Writers Network! Not only that, but I’m co-teaching with award-winning author (in pretty much every genre) and editor Kristine Kathryn Rusch and amazing urban fantasy author Phaedra Weldon!
Everything you need to know about how to write hot, sexy fiction in any genre. Taught by three of the top writers in three different genres, this will be an intense and fun writing workshop. Instructors are Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Phaedra Weldon, and Dayle Dermatis.
Workshop fee is $650.00 and room rate is $50.00 per night.
All fall workshops start at 7PM on the first Saturday and go late on the second Saturday, with travel home on Sunday.
This will be an intense writing workshop; you will get lots of practice! We’re focusing on romance, erotica, and paranormal romance/urban fantasy, but the idea is, as it says above, that you’ll learn how to write a sex scene for any genre. Intense…but it’s also going to be a blast! This will not be a workshop for prudes.
Also, like Dean says on his site, we end up talking business as well—and if you want to know what’s really going on in the world of publishing today, these are the people to talk to. (If you’re not already reading both Kris and Dean’s blogs…or even if you are!)
Feel free to ask me questions, or you can ping Dean directly (which is probably better, because he can talk more about how the workshops are run, get you signed up, etc.).
I’m…well, I’m still struggling with the “I’m not worthy” aspect of this. Kris has been one of my writing mentors for the past ten years, and to be asked to teach a workshop with her is just…gah!

The City of Burbank will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. To coincide with Burbank’s centennial celebration, the Burbank Public Library will host a mini-book festival at our Buena Vista Branch Library from 1-4 PM on Saturday, May 7th. The goal of the festival is twofold: to spotlight Burbank’s authors who have either self-published their book(s) or published through traditional avenues, giving them the venue to sell their books; and to encourage aspiring authors by offering information on writers’ organizations and self-publishing opportunities.

Book Signing
I’ll be participating in a group book signing on October 14 at the
Barnes & Noble in Encino, sponsored by the Los Angeles Romance
Writers of America chapter (LARA). I’d love to see some friendly
familiar faces there!
Best of all, when you buy books that day and present a voucher when
you pay, a portion of that money will go towards supporting LARA.

Cancelling Reading Participation
Just to let you know, I’ve had to cancel my participation in the reading. I still sound like I’m hacking up a lung, which just isn’t sexy.

Group Reading in Hollywood
I’ll be participating in a group reading (and, I assume, booksigning) in Hollywood on 9/17. I realize that getting to Hollywood on a Monday night isn’t the easiest thing, and also that lesbian erotica may not be your cup of tea! But if you CAN make it, it would mean a lot to me. While I don’t have a particular problem speaking in public, I’ve never done a reading of my own work before, and yeah, that makes me a little nervous… =8-0

Styxfest
Styxfest went very well, and I was able to give comp copies of A Little Night Music to four members of the band (the final two went to the tour manager to distribute). All seemed quite pleased by the dedication. Also, the copy in the charity auction went for $69! How deliciously appropriate!
